Issue # 5 - Week of November 4, 2024

Hello Reader,

It's quiet this week on the Notion front. My guess is that people are still absorbing and tinkering with the new Notion features.

Also, it's been a big week in the US.

Let's dive into what happened during the week of November 4, 2024:

πŸ“£ The week's Notion updates

Last week, another "Make with Notion" event happened in Berlin. There weren't any new announcements, and I'm not sure yet if these presentations were filmed.

Some more presentations from the San Francisco event are slowly being released on YouTube.

If you're an Apple user, Notion's added four new shortcuts for you:

1) Search in Notion
2) Open an existing page
3) Create a new page
4) Add text to a page

🎞️ This week's YouTube videos

How I Built It: $37K/Month Notion App by Starter Story (18 minutes)

In an interview, Julien Nahum tells the story of how he built NotionForms while commuting for 3 hours a day to his day job. He shares his process, his tech stack, the costs to run his business. And it all ends on a super positive note where he encourages us to go and build tools we think could work.

iPad mini 7 - How I Plan with Notion (AI) by Noah Herman (9 minutes)

A super, super, simple set-up, but it works. Some of Noah's workspace pages are extremely simple (as in, a page with a checklist and that's it), and I think that's where some people forget that Notion can still be a very effective task and project management even when it's super simple.

How to Build the 10-Minute Task Management Notion Setup by Productive Setups (8 minutes)

Short on time? Not sure where to start? Give this system a try. Super quick to set up and simple enough to work while keeping overwhelm as low as possible. It makes great use of the different views, while keeping the number of databases needed minimal.

NEW! Notion Layout Builder: Everything You Need To Know by Creative Core (11 minutes)

The title says it all. It's an easy-to-follow video to show you all that's possible with the new Layout Builder.

Transform Notion with This Powerful Custom Dashboard by Technitusiast (18 minutes)

This one's extra technical. It's for people who want to connect their Notion workspace to their Home Assistant. Reading the comments, it looks like a great tutorial, but because I don't know or use Home Assistant, I got lost and confused. But maybe it's your jam?

πŸŽ™οΈ Podcasts worth a listen

How Notion Cofounder Simon Last Builds AI for Millions of Users by AI and I (54 minutes)

Quite technical, and great if you're into AI. In this episode, Simon Last, Notion’s co-founder, explains how Notion is evolving with AI to automate database management, reduce manual data entry, and provide intelligent knowledge updates. The discussion eventually dives into speculation about the future of AI and moving towards a future with minimal human input.

I Was Wrong About Notion, Here’s Why… by Dom Kwolczak (vid Medium, behind paywall)

A year ago Dom announced he was done with Notion. And now? With the help of one of Thomas Frank's templates, he's making the most of it.

How to Manage Recurring Tasks in Notion by Easlo

A simple step-by-step how-to, with plenty of screenshots to show how to make recurring tasks thanks to the new automation features.

β€‹πŸŽ― Notion is a Lifestyle by Strategy Breakdowns

You've got to subscribe to read this (just your email no cost), but it's quite an in-depth analysis of what Notion is and how it works. My favourite quote:

Once you’ve adopted Notion into your personality, it doesn’t take long to feel the giant hug of Notion content, people, references, art-style, symbolism, communities, and creations in every corner of the internet
